G. Rettig

G. Rettig is a Southern-fried queer of midwestern marinade and of an undefined age.  After living several lives as a photographer, commercial advertising lighting technician, and touring musician in their native Indianapolis, they relocated to Savannah Georgia in 2007 via Chicago.  Once in Savannah they acquired a degree in photography from SCAD and then changed course drastically from staying with an art career. Having created many photo-illustration works commercially for large publication outlets, G. Rettig now mainly creates personal work, limited performance art, and focuses mostly on their small cafe in the heart of the city.

Statement

My art focuses mostly on the transient properties of interpersonal connection at the heart of the human condition.  From creating art that ages and decays as it is exposed to light, to interactive experiences built for one showing in a particular space, to using dead mediums to document personal growth and expression over the course of many years.  Many time I focus on the search for guidance in our surroundings and trying to turn that inward to personal meaning.
